But how exactly does that work? This means that the buyer itself prepares and sends an invoice to the supplier, rather than the other way around. So the supplier no longer has to issue an invoice, but receives one from the customer.  <\/p><p>This model is interesting when the buyer <strong>has the most reliable transaction data<\/strong>. A self-billing invoice broadly follows the same structure as a regular e-invoice, with an additional indication that the invoice was prepared by the <strong data-start=\"518\" data-end=\"527\">customer<\/strong>. <\/p><p data-start=\"545\" data-end=\"747\">It is important to note that <strong data-start=\"575\" data-end=\"614\">self-billing is a separate document type<\/strong>. As with credit notes, recipients must register to receive this document type. Specifically, this means:  <\/p><ul data-start=\"749\" data-end=\"1289\"><li data-start=\"749\" data-end=\"885\"><p data-start=\"751\" data-end=\"885\">If you want to send a self-billing invoice, the recipient must <strong data-start=\"806\" data-end=\"882\">be registered to receive self-billing invoices<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"886\" data-end=\"1039\"><p data-start=\"888\" data-end=\"1039\">If the supplier (for example, a farmer) is not registered for self-billing, a self-billing invoice cannot be sent through Peppol.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1040\" data-end=\"1289\"><p data-start=\"1042\" data-end=\"1289\">The <strong data-start=\"1045\" data-end=\"1085\">sender of the self-billing invoice<\/strong> does not have to register separately to send self-billing invoices, but must be able to prepare a correct self-billing invoice according to legal and Peppol standards.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1291\" data-end=\"1602\">In this way, self-billing invoices can be fully integrated within existing Peppol flows. Suppliers receive the invoice directly through the Peppol network, fully compliant with applicable international standards, while correctly complying with all registration and document type requirements. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2848647 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"2848647\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-669a12a elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"669a12a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What is the legislation around self-billing?\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2a33dd1 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"2a33dd1\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cb3f095 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cb3f095\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"text-align: left;\" data-start=\"319\" data-end=\"515\">Self-billing is <strong data-start=\"335\" data-end=\"371\">permitted, but never mandatory<\/strong>. A company cannot legally force a supplier to use self-billing.   <strong data-start=\"459\" data-end=\"515\">The supplier must explicitly agree to this.<\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"517\" data-end=\"958\">In practice, however, that choice is not always free. In sectors such as agriculture or commodity trading, it is common for a larger buyer, such as a potato wholesaler, to impose self-billing on its suppliers. For smaller suppliers, such as farmers, the agreement is often a <strong data-start=\"826\" data-end=\"869\">condition of continued supply<\/strong>. The power relationship between customer and supplier thus plays an important role here.   <\/p><p data-start=\"960\" data-end=\"1033\">When both parties agree to self-billing, the following applies:<\/p><ul data-start=\"1034\" data-end=\"1349\"><li data-start=\"1034\" data-end=\"1116\"><p data-start=\"1036\" data-end=\"1116\">The invoice issued by the customer is an <strong data-start=\"1089\" data-end=\"1114\">official VAT invoice<\/strong><\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1117\" data-end=\"1217\"><p data-start=\"1119\" data-end=\"1217\">That invoice must comply with <strong data-start=\"1148\" data-end=\"1185\">the same legal and VAT rules<\/strong> as a regular sales invoice<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1218\" data-end=\"1349\"><p data-start=\"1220\" data-end=\"1349\">In countries where e-invoicing through Peppol is mandatory, <strong data-start=\"1279\" data-end=\"1347\">self-billing invoices<\/strong> must <strong data-start=\"1279\" data-end=\"1347\">also be sent through the Peppol network<\/strong><\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1351\" data-end=\"1602\">In addition, it is also possible to work with <strong data-start=\"1398\" data-end=\"1427\">self-billing credit notes<\/strong>, for example in the case of corrections or subsequent price agreements. Thus, it may happen that an Access Point does not provide a solution for self-billing. This may have several reasons: for example, because the type of customers of that Access Point does not involve it, because the processing is technically complex, or because the software, ERP or AP tool used cannot format or process self-billing.  <\/p><p data-start=\"779\" data-end=\"989\">However, this does not mean that a self-billing invoice can simply be sent via e-mail. <strong data-start=\"871\" data-end=\"941\">Self-billing invoices must be sent via Peppol<\/strong>, as an official and legally correct document.<\/p><p data-start=\"991\" data-end=\"1379\">When dealing with self-billing, it is therefore important to <strong data-start=\"1062\" data-end=\"1142\">choose<\/strong> an <strong data-start=\"1062\" data-end=\"1142\">Access Point or software that offers a robust solution for this<\/strong>, such as Nymus. Our customers can <strong data-start=\"1262\" data-end=\"1309\">send and receive self-billing invoices<\/strong> through Peppol regardless of their ERP system, be it SAP, Business Central or any other system.
