helicopter view, we see two developments that require attention everywhere: the introduction of EU legislation <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nymus.be\/en\/vida-legislation-explained-from-international-e-invoicing-to-real-time-vat-reporting\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ViDA<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  and the advance of AI. For now, the first development is playing out mainly in Belgium, because that is where   <\/span><b>ViDA since January 1, 2026 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">entered into force in a first phase. <\/span> <\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That EU legislation requires businesses to send and receive e-invoices instead of PDF invoices or paper invoices, record VAT in real time and make all systems in <\/span><b>European countries to be interoperable<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> interoperable. Perhaps less urgent in the Netherlands at the moment because the introduction of ViDA there is not until 2030, but it might be interesting precisely for Dutch companies to know how that has gone so far in Belgium.&#8221; <\/span> <\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/nymus.be\/en\/peppol-and-e-invoicing-in-the-world\/\">Reading tip: Nymus&#8217; e-invoicing country list<\/a><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0c77217 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"0c77217\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3ea7a77 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"3ea7a77\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">How did the introduction of ViDA, or the mandatory adoption of e-invoicing, go in Belgium?\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-aa9b7f5 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"aa9b7f5\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9549d1c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9549d1c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Dauwe:<\/strong> &#8220;Not so good, because in practice it appears that only about <\/span><b>5 percent of Belgian companies have now adopted e-invoicing <\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and at the same time using its possibilities to improve their business processes. The majority do not embrace the possibilities that e-invoicing offers and experience the law as a burden, as a cost item. As a result, those companies only do the bare minimum to be compliant.   To <\/span><b>the benefits of e-invoicing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which the first group of large companies do see, they do not currently value.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Van Doorn:<\/strong> &#8220;Applying that added value, i.e. the opportunities e-invoicing offers for<\/span><b> optimizing business processes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, has a connection to the second issue at play within the &#8220;Office of the CFO. And that is how AI, a relatively new phenomenon that is suddenly visible everywhere, has an impact on the way we work and on a company&#8217;s operations. In general, but also precisely within finance.   Put more sharply: the question is actually not whether AI has an impact on this, because it certainly does, rather <\/span><b>how fast that development is going <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and what the <\/span><b>consequences on the core activities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of a company and thus on its<\/span><b> continuity.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> We are convinced that these two developments actually offer opportunities for companies, especially if you combine them.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-94d95a7 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"94d95a7\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-82dc767 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"82dc767\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">So how does this combination between e-invoicing and AI work best in practice?\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-de54a97 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"de54a97\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0ef0647 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0ef0647\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Dauwe:<\/strong> &#8220;Everything in a modern business today revolves around data &#8211; more specifically, around<\/span><b> reliable and structured data.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> With that data, it is possible to improve both the<\/span><b> internal business processes as well as the competitive position of a company<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> improve. For collecting the necessary data, e-invoicing can play a crucial role. After all, on every incoming e-invoice there is all kinds of data that is needed for more efficient business operations.&#8221; <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Van Doorn:<\/strong> &#8220;An e-invoice is indeed <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in <\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a source of information, provided a company&#8217;s suppliers make that significant data available. You can engage with them on that. That goes beyond simply having the price, quantity and amount of VAT included on the incoming e-invoice.   The other, <\/span><b>additional data needed to establish more efficient operations <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">depends in part on the industry in which a company operates. So have that conversation with suppliers and stipulate that everyone in the chain will benefit from this data.&#8221; <\/span> <\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Dauwe:<\/strong> &#8220;The data collected in this way can then be used again for an AI model. This is possible by first routing the collected data from the incoming e-invoices to the company&#8217;s ERP and\/or financial system, either directly or via an invoice automation solution.  The next step is based on that data <\/span><b>using AI to automate and optimize business processes.&#8221;<\/b><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3a94ee2 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"3a94ee2\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1c1df8f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"1c1df8f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">How does that work?  \n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7ed7731 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"7ed7731\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7a42ac8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7a42ac8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Van Doorn:<\/strong> &#8220;Suppose there were <\/span><b>at the 3 way-matching<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> an invoice fails or that there is a VAT problem. Normally, an employee then figures out where it went wrong. But in the AI scenario, for example <\/span> <b> an AI Agent<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> figures this out based on the source data present on the e-invoice, upon which action can then be taken to correct the error.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Dauwe:<\/strong> &#8220;Another example is that AI links the invoice to a cost item <\/span><b>based on historical data <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and then the invoice is automatically presented for approval to the internal manager.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Van Doorn: &#8220;So for performing repetitive operations, AI is excellent, resulting in employees taking on a more <\/span><b>controlling role <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">get and <\/span><b>more time <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have more time to perform other tasks.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f1a125f e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"f1a125f\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ba30329 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ba30329\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Can you give an example of another task for employees that involves the combination of e-invoicing and AI?\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b3990bd e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"b3990bd\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f474b35 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f474b35\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Van Doorn:<\/strong> &#8220;Numerous examples can be thought of, which have in common that they offer insights on which to make decisions. One such possibility is having <\/span><b>  reporting by AI based on internal invoice data.  <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consider, for example, making analyses of invoices received and sent over a given period. At the same time, the CFO could create support within the organization.
