Actemium uses Operra to develop software for factories and manufacturing companies in the agri-food sector. These customers—and their customers—are located not only in Belgium but also elsewhere in Europe and around the world. For their sales invoices, they must comply with local legislation in each of these countries. In Belgium, this currently means mandatory e-invoicing via Peppol; in other countries, this requirement is being phased in gradually.
The crux of the matter: Peppol and compliance are not sector-specific and therefore not part of Actemium’s core business. Becoming a Peppol specialist ourselves would divert time and focus away from where Actemium truly makes a difference: the specific functionality for the agri-food sector. The question then became: How can we offer e-invoicing within Operra without having to build and maintain that specialized layer ourselves?
Actemium chose to collaborate with an external partner specializing in Peppol and assigned Nymus the role of Peppol Access Point behind Operra. Operra forwards the invoice data, and Nymus ensures that it is correctly transmitted as UBL to the Peppol network. This includes tasks such as looking up the Peppol ID, which means Actemium does not have to deal with these matters itself.
In addition, Nymus offers a portal where Actemium’s end customers can check for themselves whether their invoices have been forwarded correctly and have been received by the network. This gives customers autonomy over their own invoicing process.
The rollout proceeded in a structured manner. Actemium was assigned a dedicated point of contact at Nymus (Leentje), began with an initial meeting in which all functional and technical aspects were reviewed, and then moved on to an implementation phase with weekly meetings. This allowed questions to be resolved quickly and enabled Actemium to continue development smoothly.
Today, Operra customers send compliant e-invoices in Belgium via Peppol. And the model is designed to adapt to changes in legislation: if Peppol mandates new fields or additional validations, Actemium forwards that information, and Nymus ensures that everything is correctly included in the UBL. This allows Actemium to save time and focus on its own product, and to implement changes in one central location rather than across each country individually.
With Operra, Actemium aims to be a long-term partner for its customers’ sales invoices, ensuring compliance with applicable laws in each country. E-invoicing is now mandatory in Belgium via Peppol; France will follow soon, and other countries will follow after that. Thanks to the partnership with Nymus, Actemium’s customers in each of these countries will automatically remain compliant with local regulations.
